Bamboo Millwork & Doors

Sustainability is a word we’ve been hearing a lot of lately.  With economical, social, and political ties, sustainability may be a term you want to become more familiar with.  Most simply defined as the ”capacity to endure”, sustainability refers to the continual maintenance and preservation of the natural world as well as the responsible use of its natural resources.1

A conscientious effort has taken hold of the building industry to commit to the values of sustainability.  Building homes that “conserve natural resources, save in energy costs, and promote the overall health and well being of our families” has become a trend that we believe is here to stay.2

In our never ending search to keep our customers satisfied and remain environmentally responsible, our research and development team suggested a manufacturing process by which new product lines could be produced at the same high standards but would help reduce our dependence on old growth forest products.  The renewable qualities and ecological benefits of bamboo have led us to our innovative prefinished bamboo product line.

Bamboo VS. Wood

· A bamboo plantation may process up to 70% more CO2 than an equivalent treed forest

· Bamboo matures within 4-6 years compared to 25-30 years for a treed forest

· Bamboo produces nearly twice as much usable fiber per harvest than a treed forest

· Bamboo can be harvested nearly five times in the same amount of time a treed forest can be harvested once

Assembly & Environmental Quality

· No urea formaldehyde is added to our bamboo products.  They are bound using polyvinyl acetate (Carpenter’s Glue) which is safe enough to be used in schools

· Clear finishes are completely designed to be HAPS compliant meeting all LEED and Carb standards applicable

FSC Certified Forestry

· Our bamboo is harvested from FSC Certified forests

· Our bamboo is naturally grown without fertilizers or irrigation techniques

· Bamboo does not require the use of pesticides because of its own natural molecular bio-agents

By coordinating our efforts with our millwork distributors and door manufacturers our bamboo product line originates with raw materials that are harvested from FSC certified forests.  Combined with compliant finishes, our bamboo millwork and doors may contribute to LEED rating points in the following areas:

· MR 6

· MR 7

· EQ 4.2

· EQ 4.4
